abingdon boys school – JAP single & PV review
abingdon boys school’s sixth single JAP brings the fun of rock n’ roll out with highly catchy tunes that you’ll want to listen to over and over again. The title track is the intro theme to the new anime “戦国BASARA” (Devil Kings) and brings a danceable beat to the table using only the instruments they have. The bass guitar is more prominent during the verses which is rare in songs nowadays so it’s a refreshing treat for bass fans. During a break down Takanori takes the opportunity to rap a little while getting the band to shout a few times. Takanori also intricates English within his Japanese lyrics, giving fans the best of both worlds.
The B-side Valkyrie (possibly inspired by the movie) uses more electronic beats, the opposite of the A-side. This song is also a treat in the sense that it’s entirely in English and Takanori’s English is easy to understand which makes it a lot easier to sing along to. Though the guitar riffs are heavier in this song, it’s still very catchy and bobbing one’s head to the beat is almost unavoidable. The woman’s voice that abingdon have used in the past makes another appearance with a sentence that is fairly hard to hear when not listening closely as the beats are slightly overbearing to her voice. Both of these songs are very catchy and fun – a great single overall and a definite must for abingdon boys school fans.
A sea of hands clapping is the first thing you’re exposed to as the fans clap along to the opening beats of the song. As soon as the fun begins, Takanori and his bandmates are surrounded by girls dancing in their school uniforms which is highly amusing to watch. The scenes switch back and forth between the band surrounded by dancing girls to playing onstage in front of the fans with their backs to the camera. Takanori is using a detached carbon microphone to sing into but with a twist – there’s a light inside it to make it glow. The scenes change slightly as Takanori is in the middle of the crowd singing on what seems to be a small square platform so he’s upclose and personal with the fans. Unable to surpress the urge, he tosses a bottle of water on the crowd and falls back to let his fans hold him up in an almost crowd surfing. After rocking out, we’re left blinded by bright lights, ending the fun.
